Every company has its own story, and Sisley’s origins are certainly nobler than the average company. The website describes the company as a “family business,” and while this is technically true, perhaps a more accurate description would be that it is a royal family business. Founded in 1976 by the French Count Hubert d'Ornano, Sisley’s approach is based on the principles of “Phytocosmetology”, the practice of using plant extracts for cosmetic purposes.
According to some, these extracts improve circulation at the skin’s surface, help to ease stress through aromatherapy, and act as natural preservatives, reducing the need for synthetic chemicals. While experts agree that certain botanicals can function as antioxidants, protecting the skin from free radical damage, few have yet to produce significant results in a clinical study.

Sisley’s line consists of skin and hair care products for men and women, as well as a line of color cosmetics. Intensive Night Care is designed to strengthen and soften the skin during sleep, when the body restores itself. Attempting to take advantage of the process, the cream contains herbs to help the skin to retain its moisture and ward off free radicals. Chamomile, for example, has used to purify the skin and reduce puffiness, while Calendula Lily which may help tighten pores. However, neither of these herbs has been shown to have any effect on wrinkles.
Fortunately, scientists have discovered ingredients that have been shown to increase collagen synthesis, which keeps skin smooth and firm. Amino acid peptides may help to prevent the formation of lines, as well as reduce the depth of existing wrinkles. And unlike some essential oils, they will not irritate sensitive skin.

Visitors to Sisley’s website will be pleased to see that in addition to providing a complete list of products, organized by type, the company also notes each the active ingredients in each product. While this may be helpful for those who are familiar with the common uses of various plant extract, the majority of consumers could benefit from further elaboration, especially considering how many similar-sounding products are in Sisley’s line.
Another drawback to the site is that it does not offer online shopping. This may be frustrating to those who do not live in metropolitan areas, since Sisley products tend to be available only in large upscale department stores.

It is difficult to understand the reason for Sisley’s high price point, given that most of its formulas’ ingredients literally grow on trees (or bushes). While certain plant extracts have been shown to help protect the skin against environmental damage, there is little evidence that they can help to soften the appearance of wrinkles.
Women who would like to restore their skin’s elasticity (and who wouldn’t?) may want to consider a more advanced treatment containing complexes that are specially designed to increase skin collagen. Savvy shoppers may also be pleased to learn that they needn’t spend an arm and a leg to get a great face.
