Roc Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

Roc Deep Wrinkle Night Cream Review Summary

Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is an anti-aging skincare product marketed by RoC,® a well-known manufacturer of various skincare products. This product is said to be “an intensive anti-wrinkle treatment that works through the night, visibly reducing expression lines and deep wrinkles.” The product apparently features the ingredient Retinol, which is said to “penetrate deep down within the skin's surface to help fill in even your deep wrinkles.”

Although Retinol is still commonly used in many skincare products, it has been claimed that this ingredient may cause skin irritation. Because minimizing irritation is an important objective of a quality skincare product, we find this ingredient’s inclusion to be cause for concern. Currently, there are some new, scientifically-advanced ingredients that are increasingly used as equally effective substitutes for Retinol. We are also concerned with some very negative consumer reviews we encountered for this product. We will evaluate this product for its ability to smooth wrinkles without skin irritation.

Ingredients at a Glance
This formula may include some of the many following ingredients: Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, Dimethyl MEA, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, PEG 100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Ceteareth 20, Steareth 10, Citric Acid, Glycolic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Aluminum Starch Octenyl Succinate, Squalane, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Fragrance, Methylparaben, Xanthan Gum, Propylparaben, Polysorbate 20, Polysorbate 60, Retinol, BHT, Disodium EDTA, Ascorbic Acid, Magnesium Aspartate, Zinc Gluconate and Copper Gluconate.

Ingredients in Focus
Although some skin types may respond to Retinol, it reportedly can cause irritation and adverse skin reactions in others. Many manufacturers have begun using the impressive new ingredient Matrixyl 3000®, which is showing great promise as an effective Retinol alternative. In fact, Matrixyl 3000® has reportedly delivered superior results to Retinol in clinical studies. One researcher reports, “Matrixyl 3000® is shown in double-blind clinical studies to be as effective as medical strength Retinol and more effective than Vitamin C at reducing the signs of aging without any irritation. Matrixyl™ out performs Retinol and Vitamin C in smoothing and reducing wrinkles as much as 68% in 2 to 6 months.” We also would have preferred to see some other highly advanced skincare ingredients, such as Collagen, in this product.

Lifestyle
We were rather alarmed to encounter several negative consumer reviews of this product. Consumers seemed to report that the product either didn’t work, caused skin eruptions, or increased under-eye bags. One consumer wrote, “Although it feels great going on...after a while, the bags under my eyes got to be so bad, it looked like I had been crying for a week. It was awful.” Another consumer reported, “I will not use this again. It did not feel good when I applied it and it left me with horrible looking puffiness and bags around my eyes. Worse than before I used the product! As soon as I stopped using the product, they went away.” A third consumer claimed, “Not only did I wake up all itchy, but I woke up with 3 new faint lines on the side of my forehead...talk about a rude awakening! Retinol is too strong for my oily, sensitive skin.”

Positives
• Retinol may work for some consumers
• Contains Shea Butter

Final Thoughts
We believe that ultimately, this product’s main ingredient may be “iffy” for various skin types. For those who know with certainty that they can tolerate this ingredient, this may be a valid option, but otherwise, it may be questionable.

We are aware of some skincare products that not only utilize the gentler Retinol-alternative, Matrixyl 3000®, but also combine it with some of the other top skincare ingredients. Some of the most exciting skincare innovations today include Argireline, Hyaluronic Acid and even Real Collagen.
