Revance Review Summary

Revance Therapeutics, Inc is a specialty biopharmaceutical company, whose area of expertise is developing topical botulinum toxin that is used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, as well as being used to augment elasticity in the skin. Some people may know this developer by its former name Essentia Biosystems, Inc. This line is a bit different than regular skincare products, in that some of the elements they produce are used in other products, with the exception of Relastin. Lets take a look at this developer and its products to see what it may have to offer.

Products at a Glance
The Revance product line consists of RT-001-CS, RT-001-HH, and RTC-101 Relastin™. These products are used in other skincare products, with the exception of Relastin™, which is also sold on the Relastin™ website.

Products in Focus
For the most part, these products are based on using topical botulinum toxin, which is an element many consumers are familiar with whether they know it or not, because it is the primary element in Botox®. This element is a Neurotoxin Protein that is produced by Clostridium Botulinum, which is one of the more poisonous naturally occurring elements in the world, and it fact, it is a toxic protein. However, it has been used in minuscule doses to care for an array of conditions besides skin aging, including painful muscle spasms. However, botulinum toxin, whether used in Botox® or other similar pharmaceuticals, is always injected, unlike the Revance product line, which is topical in nature.

Revance has created a topical product line that is based on element, called Relastin™. This product line is purported to be able to increase elastin production in skin tissues, in order to increase the firmness and elasticity of user’s skin. This is an over-the-counter product line that consists of three products: Relastin™ Skin Revitalizer, Relastin™ Eye Silk and Relastin™ Ultra Emollient. Unlike the other products in the Revance line, Relastin™ does not contain botulinum toxin.

Revance products do contain Vitamin A, Sodium Hyaluronate and Vitamin E, as well as a wide array of herbal extracts, which are used to try to promote Elastin production. However, while these elements may be able to augment skin health, and help hydrate the skin, they have not been shown to be highly effective in terms of reducing the outward signs of aging, like wrinkles and fine lines. However, when examining this line, we noted that they did not include Peptide or Amino Acid-based technology. These technologies have been shown to be able to take anti-aging products to a much higher level of effectiveness.

The Revance website is rather technical, which may be off putting to consumers looking for product-related information. They do not really explain their products in an easy to understand format, which is unfortunate. However, the Relastin™ website is extremely user friendly, and provider’s users with a lot of easy to understand product-related information, including how these products work and the formulas used in each product. These two sites were as different as night and day, and we can only hope that consumers who end up at the Revance website, eventually find their way to the Relastin™ site, so they can better understand how some of the products in this line work.

Final Thoughts
Revance is a product developer that is focused on two different aspects of aging: creating products that can increase Elastin production, and developing topical formulas that uses botulinum toxin, which is the primary element in Botox®. As noted above, their Relastin™ skincare line is promoted as being able to increase Elastin production; however, we doubt the elements used in this formula are able to accomplish this task. It does offer users antioxidant support, and a way to increase hydration.

Many consumers are eagerly awaiting a topical product that uses botulinum toxin effectively, but to date, no developer has been able to achieve this. However, Argireline®, a combination of Amino Acids, which is used in the more effective anti-aging formulas, has been compared with Botox® by skincare experts. This is because it has been shown to be extremely effective in reducing the depth of facial wrinkles, especially those instigated by the contractions of facial muscles, such as laugh lines and crows feet. However, Argireline® doesn’t have Botox®’s parallelizing side effects. We often suggest looking for this key ingredient in anti-aging formulas.
