Glyquin is a prescription cream that is designed to gradually fade unwanted skin pigmentations such as freckles, melasma, and other hyperpigmented skin conditions. It may also have the added benefit of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This new formulation improves upon the original Glyquin by adding Vitamins C and E, which have been shown to function as antioxidants, protecting the skin from free radical damage. Hydroquinone is currently available in topical creams under several brand names. It works by inhibiting the production of melanin, the primary determinant of skin color. When too much melanin is produced, either as a result of sun exposure or genetics, for example, this can lead to hyperpigmentation, or overly pigmented patches of skin. Hydroquonine helps to fade these areas by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase, the enzyme needed to make melanin.
Because Hydroquinone can increase sensitivity to sunlight and artificial light, dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, as well as protective clothing, if possible.

Perhaps most significantly, it contains glycolic acid to increase the penetration and efficacy of hydroquinone. Glycolic acid is often used to exfoliate the skin, allowing the dead skin to peel off to reveal a fresher, healthier layer with a more even color and texture. Despite these benefits, glycolic acid may have only a minimal effect on wrinkles in this particular product since it is meant to be applied only to hyperpigmented areas rather than all over the face.
Vitamins C and E are also common ingredients in anti-aging treatments because of their antioxidant properties. Although they have been shown to protect the skin from environmental damage, Vitamin C in particular can be quite unstable, so it is difficult to know whether or not they will be effective.
