The Dr. Brandt skincare line was the brainchild of Dr. Frederic Brandt, a successful and widely known dermatologist with practices in both New York and Miami. Beginning his career as a researcher at New York City’s Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Brandt studied the use of natural ingredients as anti-carcinogens.
This research became the basis for his very popular and somewhat exclusive line of skincare products that focus on the use of active botanicals to keep skin looking young and healthy. However, with such a large number of very similar creams and serums from which to choose, consumers may find themselves parting with more money than they had originally intended.

Most Dr. Brandt products are designed to fight the signs of aging, but because they are so numerous they are categorized as Lineless, Poreless, Active Addititves, The Specialists, High Performance, Sun, and Laser in a Bottle. Some of the treatments include: R3P Cream, Lineless Eye Cream, Pores No More, Vitamin C Body Lotion, Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion, and Laser Lightening Serum.

Dr. Brandt’s R3P Cream is classified as a “High Performance” product, which means that it promises to produce immediate and lasting results. Like many of the newer wrinkle creams, it contains Argireline, a hexapeptide complex that is thought to inhibit some of the tiny facial twitches that over time can result in fine lines.
Unfortunately for those who began paying attention to their skin a little too late in life, this product is not likely to have a significant effect on existing wrinkles. Collagen production tends to decline with age, and so the only way to keep skin from sagging is to apply a product containing an ingredient like Matrixyl 3000, which has been shown to actually increase collagen synthesis.

As one might expect from such an exclusive line, Dr. Brandt’s web site is quite slick but still easy to navigate. Each product description includes a list of its active ingredients, along with a link to a glossary of clearly-worded descriptions.
When it comes to customer service, however, the Dr. Brandt website still leaves a few things to be desired. Online shopping is available, but we could not find any information on the company’s return policy. Considering the brand’s high price point, consumers deserve to know whether or not they will be able to make returns or exchanges. Some companies have found that they can greatly increase customer satisfaction by offering a free trial sample.

While Dr. Brandt products offer a very targeted approach to combating the aging process, the number of specialty treatments might lead some consumers to wonder why he could not design a formula that included all of the necessary components. The line also seems to rely heavily on plant extracts, many of which have been shown to act as potent antioxidants, but others (such as grape seed extract, for example) have yet to be studied closely. Although none of the products contain artificial fragrances, some essential oils and extracts can be just as irritating to sensitive skin.
In addition to its use of natural ingredients, the Dr. Brandt line also appeals to the “green” set by using only recyclable and biodegradable packaging. However, consumers could save more waste and more money by choosing a product that offers complete protection complete damage protection and hydration.
