LA MER has developed and launched a anti-aging and anti-wrinkle product called Crème de la Mer. LA MER is a New York based company which carries an extensive product line, which includes eye creams, cleansers, face lifting formulas, lightening formulas, sun blocks and body crèmes. LA MER was started by Dr. Max Huber, an aerospace physicist, about forty years ago. Their, Crème de la Mer is purported to use a nutrient abundant element called “Miracle Broth™.”
Crème de la Mer is advertised as being able to achieve the following results: “In a short time, skin becomes softer, firmer, looks virtually creaseless. Aging lines and pores are noticeably less visible. Even the driest of complexions are healed”. We were very intrigued by these claims, and will thoroughly review this formulary to see what results this product can actually provide to consumers.

There are no ingredients listed for Crème de la Mer, except for something called Miracle Broth™; a patented ingredient for which no ingredients are disclosed. We found the non-disclosure of this formulary to be very disturbing for a variety of reasons. One of which is that we believe that consumers have a right to know what is in a skin care product and how it works. Furthermore, we were very troubled when we read on the website that the manufacturer does not know how it works either. This statement was posted by LA MER: “Even now, it is not entirely clear how Crème de la Mer works”. Overall, we found this to be extremely troubling.
In general, we believe that anti-aging and anti-wrinkle formulas can help consumers address their age related skin care issues, when they use ingredients with a proven track record of producing skin rejuvenating and regenerating results. There are many successful formulas on the market, which reveal their formularies to consumers.
These proven products will often use ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Argireline®. Hyaluronic Acid is used because it has been proven to be able to increase skin smoothness, elasticity and softness, as well as being able to help diminish wrinkles because of its extreme hydrating effects, while Argireline is a mixture of amino acids, which have shown some really good anti-wrinkle results in helping to calm down facial wrinkles, decrease the degree of existing wrinkles, and impede their future progression. Many consumers seek out formularies which use these two ingredients, because of their proven skin refreshing and revitalizing abilities. It is unfortunate that we do not know if these ingredients are used in the Crème de la Mer formula.

The Crème de la Mer website was very light on actual data and very heavy in mystery, in terms of research, ingredients and general information. This manufacturer shrouds its formulary in mystery and intrigue; which directly impacts the quality of the information available on its website. As mentioned earlier, the manufacturer posted on their website that they are “not entirely clear how Crème de la Mer works”.
Do they really not known how this product achieves the purported anti-aging and anti-wrinkling effects? Or is it merely a method to sell this product and hype for the website? Either way we find it to be troubling and problematic. In no way should the mystery surrounding this formulary be taken as an indication of its effectiveness. In fact, when a formulary is this mysterious and is not disclosed we see it as a red flag in terms of quality.

We can not recommend LA MER anti-wrinkle and anti-aging product Crème de la Mer, because its formulary is not disclosed, nor is the technology used disclosed. Also as mentioned, the manufacturer shrouds this formulary in secrecy and mystery – and states that they do not even know how it works. Some might take that as an indication of the effectiveness of this product, however, we do not; in fact, we this as a red flag for us in terms of product quality. In general, we believe consumers have a right to know what is in any facial skin care product they are considering for purchase.
As mentioned earlier, many successful anti-aging and anti-wrinkle creams will use ingredients which have a proven ability to enhance skin quality such as Hyaluronic Acid and Argireline. We have seen these two ingredients achieve excellent results in creating smoother, firmer and more youthful looking skin, when used separately and together. Crème de la Mer can be purchased directly from the website for $110 for 1 oz.
