When Lorraine Meisner discovered Cellex-C’s anti-wrinkle formula, she never intended for it to provide the foundation for a successful line of luxury cosmetics. Frustrated by so-called anti-aging treatments that actually put skin at greater risk for sun damage, she set out to create a stabilized version of Vitamin C for topical use. When correctly formulated, Vitamin C can help to protect the skin from UV damage, and even delay the formation of tumors caused by exposure to UV rays.
According the Cellex-C’s company website, Vitamin C is the best vitamin for the skin because it has the greatest potential as an antioxidant. It also claims that it has the greatest benefits for collagen synthesis. Despite all the resources that cosmetics companies have invested into developing new and better Vitamin C formulation, there is no scientific evidence to support the idea that Vitamin C is any more beneficial than Vitamins A or E, for example. Although vitamins are undoubtedly an excellent way to nourish the skin and protect it from the signs of aging, there is no consensus on which vitamin is best.

Cellex-C High Potency Serum contains a patented formula for stabilizing Vitamin C: Ascorbic acid, which is a pure form of vitamin C; the mineral zinc and the amino acid tyrosine.
Preparing vitamin C for topical application is a difficult and costly process. Many formulations on the market are manufactured cheaply and are basically ineffective. There are many topical vitamin C preparations available that claim to benefit photo aged skin. However, almost all of these claims have no rigorous scientific testing to back them.
Because of the product’s high cost, Cellex-C is currently only a viable solution for celebrities and socialites. In addition, because it was primarily intended to work as a preventative treatment, it may be best suited to those who have yet to incur significant damage.

Cellex-C opts for a very spare website design, perhaps to impart a more scientific image. Like many cosmetics companies’ web sites, this one breaks down its different lines to their own pages. Visitors may then click on each product in order to get more detailed information. Although Cellex-C provides the ingredients for each of its products, it is still quite easy to be confused about which product is suitable for which skin type. This might be a bit clearer if the site devoted a section to explaining each ingredient and citing specific scientific evidence to support its purported benefits.

The story behind Cellex-C’s inception is certainly impressive, and if Dr. Meisner gets her wish, her discovery will soon be used to protect children from the sun’s harsh rays. But for now, the entire Cellex-C line is quite expensive, and the individual products are quite targeted, so consumers would have to spend a large amount of money on multiple treatments in order to get complete skin care.
There is no doubting Vitamin C’s potential for preventing UV damage, but it is by no means the only solution. Women who are interested in protecting their skin from wrinkles do not need to spend money on a lot of different products. There are excellent peptide-based creams that can help to soften lines as well as provide moisture, some companies even offer free trials for you to evaluate.
