Caudalie Revitalizing Face Treatment Review Summary |
|
Revitalizing Face Treatment is manufactured and marketed by Caudalie USA, Inc., located in Richardson, Texas. The company has spa locations in France, Italy and in California. The impetus behind starting a skin care line began in 1993 when the founders, Mathilde & Bertrand Thomas, were walking through their family’s vineyard and became aware through of the “healing properties” of the grape and grapevine.
In 1994 they patented the stabilization of grape-seed polyphenols. Polyphenols are the rage now in spas around the world. Among some of the places they are found are in tea, wine, and chocolate—the reason behind chocolate baths and massages and wine barrel baths.
Polyphenols, though, are only one of three ingredients found in grapes and all of its ancillary parts that Caudalie USA, Inc. claim make their products the best for anti-aging purposes. We will examine the ingredients of the featured product below.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
|
Polyphenols from the grape seeds are antioxidants that eliminate free radicals from the body that induce the aging process. Before Polyphenols were patented for this use, Vitamins E and C were considered the most powerful antioxidants.
Viniferine is one of the Polyphenols in grapes that inhibits the development of age spots while improving the overall coloring of the skin.
Polyphenols in red wine are also said to provide natural UV protection from the sun with anthocyanidins, one of the natural colorants of the grape.
Resveratrol is another antioxidant that is said to firm and tone the skin while reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Caudalie USA claims that this ingredient is a healthier alternative from harsher ingredients that promote cell renewal, such as retinol and fruit acids. It does provide scientific research outcomes of this ingredient, but it does not cite its research.
Sweet Almond Vegetal Oil, Musk Rose Vegetal Oil, Neroli Essential Oil, Carrot Essential Oil, Sandalwood Essential Oil, and Lavender Essential Oil are all included to soften the skin and provide moisture.
These ingredients definitely have the power to fight free radicals and are very preventative, but we are not sure if the science truly backs up the ability of these ingredients to reverse the signs of aging by decreasing wrinkle depth. The company claims that Viniferine rids the skin of dark spots and increases collagen production, but this ingredient was only discovered in 2004—this is not enough time to establish longitudinal studies to look at the use of this over longer periods of time.
We are aware of products that are proven to decrease wrinkle depth through very effective patented ingredients. One of the reasons we develop wrinkles is through repetitive facial expressions over long periods of time, such as smiling and furrowing the brow. As these wrinkles get deeper, the production of collagen in the wrinkle responds by not feeding collagen into that area. There are ingredients on the market that can work underneath the skin, such as Argireline®, to relax the muscles so they become flatter. This, in turn, decreases wrinkle depth and increases Collagen production in the wrinkle.

 | Website |
|
The website gives the history of the Caudalie USA, Inc., which is headquartered in Texas although it has Vinotherapie Spas® spas in Italy, France and California, which focuses on the benefits of the vineyard to heal the body.
Although the entire site discusses how the grape seed and its ancillary parts provides the best outcome in reducing signs of aging, we are a bit skeptical since one of these “discoveries” was just made in 2004, as stated above. This is hardly enough time to truly see the long-ranging effects of an ingredient.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
Even though we certainly do not doubt the benefits of the grape and all of its parts to enhance the health of the skin, we do not believe the ingredients in the grape to be the most effective ingredients on the market.
Also, although plant extracts may be somewhat effective, the very substances from the skin itself, such as Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid, are in formulas on the market today which are actually proven effective. As we age, these substances become depleted and need to be replenished voluntarily in the skin. Seek products that have a patented ingredient, such as Argireline®, and natural ingredients found in the skin over simple plant extracts.
