Aqua Glycolic

The Aqua Glycolic® line includes a facial cleanser, toner, face cream, shampoo and body cleanser, as well as hand and body lotion.

Glycolic Acid is the key ingredient in this product line, and it is an AHA, which is short for Alpha Hydroxy Acid. AHAs are often derived from fruit or plant sources, as well as from milk. However, when used in products, such as this one, they are most often synthetically derived. When they are used at a concentration of 3% or less, they are simply used as a water-binding element; when they are used in higher concentrations, which usually means 4% and in a natural base of an acid pH of 3 to 4, they may exfoliate skin cells. Exfoliants are ingredients that slough away the dead skin cells on the top layer of the dermis.

However, there is a downside where AHAs are concerned – they may irritate mucous membranes and cause skin irritation for some individuals. Nevertheless, they are often used to revive photo-damaged skin, as well as to assist those who suffer from over-thickened skin. It is often included in skin care products, but it is usually used as part as a team. And, while it may assist with certain aspects of aging, it may not directly address wrinkles and fine lines at their core.

Clearly, Glycolic Acid may play a role in skin care, but our findings show that it is not the only element needed by women who are looking to increase skin health, as well as ease the signs of aging. For instance, this element likely will not assist people in hydrating their skin, and dehydration may actually promote the aging process. This is why some of the more effective product developers will include Hyaluronic Acid in their formularies. Matrixyl 3000® has been shown in clinical studies to lessen wrinkle density, volume and depth; while Argireline® has been shown to be particularly valuable in easing lines that form around the mouth and eyes, because it relaxes the muscles responsible for creating them in the first place.

However, we find it does not offer a full spectrum of anti-aging support, which is exactly what many women seek.
